Candidates who pass the examination will be ranked based test scores and then placed on an eligibility list. Candidates will be considered in the order by which they are ranked on the list. The eligibility list will remain active for twelve months following the examination date. If a position is filled with a person at a higher rank on the eligibility list, then later in that twelve-month window another position becomes available, remaining candidates on the eligibility list will again be considered for the position based on rank.
Exam notices will be posted at least ten days prior to the examination date, and pre-registrations will be opened at least ten days prior to the examination date and will be accepted online at www.hursttx.gov/openpositions. You can also subscribe to receive Notification of a Police Civil Service Entry Examination.
The City of Hurst uses the “Concept2 Rower” for the physical assessment. The test is designed to determine your overall fitness level specifically for the position of Police Officer. The test parameters are set based on gender, age and weight of the applicant:
Learn about the Concept2 Rower by visiting http://www.concept2.com/indoor-rowers/training/technique-videos. The damper setting on the rower will be set at “5” at the time of the physical assessment. Many local gyms, recreation centers, and fitness facilities use the Concept2Rower, and it is highly recommended applicants take the opportunity to prepare for the physical assessment.
