Powers and Duties

Texas law called Civil Service governs processes and procedures for hiring City of Hurst Police Officers and Fire Fighters. Civil Service regulations are found in the Texas Local Government Code Chapter 143.

These regulations require the City Manager, as the Chief Executive of the municipality, to appoint three Civil Service Commissioners.

The Civil Service Commission may investigate and report on all matters relating to the enforcement and effect of the local Government Code, Chapter 143, Section 143.009 and any rules adopted under this Chapter and shall determine if the Chapter and Rules are being obeyed. 

Number of Members: Three (3) - Appointed by City Manager and confirmed by City Council.

Term: Three (3) years

Meetings: Thursdays at 4:00 p.m., as needed.
