The City of Hurst contracts with Republic Services for the collection of garbage and recycling. Based on citizen inquiries, we have gathered information to answer the most common questions about trash and recycling.

- Garbage has to be at the curb (on the house side of the curb, not in the gutter) in a trash bag or contained in a trash can by 7 a.m. on collection days to ensure pickup.
- Solid waste cannot be placed out more than twelve (12) hours prior to the pickup day.
- Tree limbs must be bundled together in bundles no longer than four (4) feet and must not weigh more than 50 pounds.

- RESIDENTS NORTH OF SH 121/183 Airport Frwy - Garbage collection service is weekly, Monday and Thursday. Recycle pickup will be on Monday
- RESIDENTS SOUTH OF SH 121/183 Airport Frwy - Garbage collection service is weekly, Tuesday and Friday. Recycle pickup will be on Tuesday
Republic Services is closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day. When one of these three holidays falls on a weekday, collection service will be delayed one day. For example, on Thanksgiving, Thursday routes will run on Friday; Friday routes will run on Saturday.
Listed below is the holiday schedule for the City of Hurst. This is subject to change upon discussion and agreement between Republic Services and the City of Hurst. Unless otherwise noted below, all trash and recycle collection will take place on the City of Hurst’s normal collection days (Mon/Thurs or Tues/Fri).
2024 HOLIDAYS
THANKSGIVING SCHEDULE – Thursday, November 28, 2024:
Normal Thursday trash collection will shift to Friday
Normal Friday trash collection will shift to Saturday
CHRISTMAS SCHEDULE – Wednesday, December 25, 2024:
Normal Thursday trash collection will shift to Friday

NEW YEARS SCHEDULE – Wednesday, January 1, 2025:

- Garbage has to be at the curb (on the house side of the curb not in the gutter) in a trash bag or contained in a trash can. Total weight of garbage and container cannot exceed 50 pounds.
- Bulky objects for garbage collection can be placed with regular garbage on your normal pickup day. Bulky items include furniture, bedsprings, televisions, washer/dryer, etc.
- Tree limbs and brush must be bundled, no longer than four feet in length and not to exceed fifty pounds.
- Special pickup for loose brush can be arranged by calling Republic Services/Allied Waste at 817-332-7301.
- Hazardous material will not be accepted.
- Brick and concrete will not be accepted.

Each household is provided a recycle bin for recycling. Acceptable materials may be combined in the bins and placed curbside once per week.
- Residents who reside north of Hwy 121 will have their recyclable items collected on Monday.
- Residents who reside south of Hwy 121 will have their recyclable items collected on Tuesdays.
For any other sanitation needs, please contact Republic Services/Allied Waste at 817-332-7301, ext #7 and ask to speak with a Customer Service Representative for residential or commercial service.
Commonly accepted recyclables include: paper, plastic, cardboard, and aluminum.

NOTE: all recyclables must be
- Dry newspapers, catalogs and magazines
- Junk mail, envelopes
- Cereal boxes
- Cardboard
- Chipboard all placed inside a brown paper grocery sack
- Cardboard must be broken down flat. (Excludes tissues, wet paper or paper contaminated with food products)
- All colors of glass bottles and jars (excluding plate glass, mirrors, windows, ceramics and other glass products)
- All metal food and beverage cans with all food and food waste removed (excluding aluminum foil)
- Number 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 & 7 plastics including milk jugs, liter bottles, shampoo bottles, etc. (excluding butter tubs or containers with openings as large as the container, or bottles that contained oil or petroleum by-products. Remove all caps.)
- Telephone books only when Southwestern Bell Telephone distributes new books
- The customer must use the recycling container provided but can bundle or tie newspapers and place them on or beside the container
- Mixed paper (i.e. junk mail, cardboard, cereal boxes, etc.) must be placed inside a brown paper grocery sack.
NOT ACCEPTABLE: Waxed & Carbon Paper, Food & Liquid Waste (Soiled Materials), Solid Waste & Yard Waste, Hazardous E-Waste

Attention: This service is free to the Citizens of Hurst; however, the City is charged per disposal, whether it is a single can of paint or 50 cans. As a result, we ask that you collect several items within your household or with your neighbors to dispose of at the Collection Center.
Republic Services is the City's sole provider for dumpster rental in Hurst. To request a dumpster for rental, please call Republic Services' Customer Service Center 817-332-7301.
City Ordinance information -
Sec. 9.5-15. - Exclusivity of contract rights.
No person shall collect, remove or dispose of garbage containers or trash receptacles or convey or transport garbage or trash on the streets, alleys and public thoroughfares of the city except duly authorized agents or employees of the city and persons acting pursuant to a contract with the city for public collection and disposal of garbage, trash and brush. The contractor shall have the sole and exclusive privilege to provide the following service within the corporate limits of the city:
•Residential curbside service. •Residential back door service. •Residential senior citizen curbside service. •Residential senior citizen backdoor service. •Residential recycling service. •Special on-call brush collection service. •Commercial curbside service. •Commercial front-end loader service. •Commercial rolloff schedule service. •Commercial rolloff temporary service. •Commercial compactor service.
The contractor shall at all times have the right of first refusal to the collection of dead animals and hazardous waste from residential, commercial and industrial premises.
We have coordinated with Republic Services to offer additional curbside collection days:
- Saturday, October 5 (for those with Monday & Thursday garbage service); and
- Saturday, October 12 (for those with Tuesday & Friday garbage service.)
You can leave your bulky or green waste items at your curb, just make sure that loose items are bundled or containerized. Place your items for pickup by 7 a.m.

Directions to Facility
- From Hurst head East on Highway 183 (DFW - Airport Highway)
- Exit Highway 183 onto FM 157 (Industrial Dr - exit); turn South (right);
- Proceed 1.2 miles on FM 157 to Mosier Valley Road;
- Turn West (right) on Mosier Valley Road;
- Proceed 150' on Mosier Valley Road and turn left into the Arlington Landfill Facility Entrance
Directions inside the Facility
- Proceed approximately 100' on the asphalt road and turn right onto the concrete road... this road will lead you to the Scale-house.
- Proceed onto the vehicle scale One vehicle at a time pulling up to the teller window (Please present your Picture ID and/or Water Bill to the scale attendant).
- The scale attendant will provide you with a transaction ticket or ID card and direct you to the Convenience Center to off load your materials.
- Exit the scale & proceed to Convenience Center or alternate location as directed by the Scale Attendant.
- A Spotter at the Convenience Center will direct you to the appropriate off loading area(s).
- When you have completed unloading all of your material return from the Convenience Center to the Scale-house along the same route.
- Proceed onto the vehicle scale located on the opposite side of the scale house building used when entering to complete your transaction.
- When you have completed your transaction, drive off the scale and follow the same route utilized to enter the facility in the opposite direction.
Note: Arlington Landfill can accept residents from 7:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
No Charge service is limited to individual Homeowner waste delivered in car or pick up size loads or 8' long trailers, larger loads or commercial business loads will be charged a fee.
Service does not include the disposal of Hazardous Waste.
Hazardous materials may be disposed of at the Environmental Collection Center in Fort Worth. Citizens with a Hurst address on their driver’s license or a current water bill may take those hard-to get-rid-of items such as aerosol cans, old paint, batteries, and used motor oil to the ECC and leave them with a highly trained professional staff for proper disposal or reuse, free of charge. The Environmental Collection Center (ECC) in Fort Worth is located at 6400 Bridge St. near I-30 and Loop 820. For more information call the ECC at 817-392-1234.
