Mayor Henry Wilson was born in Wharton, Texas. After graduating high school in Wharton, he attended the University of Texas, graduating with a BS degree in Aerospace Engineering. Besides the BS in Aerospace Engineering, he has a Master’s Degree in Engineering Mechanics and a Masters in Management Science. Mayor Wilson was elected to the Hurst City Council on April 6, 1985. Upon graduating from the University of Texas, he moved to Hurst in 1969 and went to work for Bell Helicopter, where he retired in 2012 as Chief of Airframe Structures. He also was an Adjunct Professor at the Tarrant County College Northeast campus, teaching in the Math and Business Departments. His civic activities have been centered on youth activities where he was an assistant Scout Master, Soccer Coach, involved with Little Dribblers, and is past president of the Mid Cities Optimist Club. In 1980, he was appointed to the Hurst Traffic Safety Commission and then the Planning and Zoning Commission prior to being elected to the City Council. He represented Northeast Tarrant County on the Regional Transportation Committee and chaired the committee for two years. Mayor Wilson is a past President of the Texas Municipal League (TML) and is on TML’s Board of Directors. He also serves on the Hurst Crime Control District Board and the Hurst Community Services Development Corporation. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Texas Municipal League Intergovernmental Risk Pool and served on the Board of Directors of the National League of Cities. Currently he serves on the National League of Cities’ Advisory Council and their Small Cities Steering Committee. He was a Council Member when the Hurst City Council was named the best city council in Texas in 2013. Mayor Wilson and his wife, Gail have a son, and two daughters. |
