Phase 1 - "Community Built on Connection"

In September 2022, City Council and the Hurst Community Arts and Historic Landmark Preservation Committee selected nineteen local artists and community members to transform Hurst utility boxes into art. The City received so many fantastic submissions that the project was approved to expand from six utility boxes to eighteen. The winning artists chose to showcase the theme “Community built on connection” by highlighting Hurst parks, history, facilities, and much more. In November, the vinyl wraps of each of the nineteen designs were installed on the utility boxes across north and south Hurst. We were happy to capture our artists with their winning designs after the installation process. You can visit all nineteen utility boxes by following the map below.

Phase 2 - "The Building Blocks of Hurst"

In September 2023,  the City Council and Hurst Community Arts & Historic Landmark Preservation Committee selected ten talented artists for phase two of the Utility Box Art Project. In celebration of Hurst’s rich history and vibrant culture, the phase two theme was “The Building Blocks of Hurst.” Artists were challenged to encapsulate the essence of the community’s evolution through time. The artists embraced the theme wholeheartedly, each contributing their interpretation of the building blocks that have shaped Hurst into the thriving City it is today. The designs highlight the contributions of individuals, organizations, industries, and the educational systems that have shaped Hurst’s history.
