Fire Operations consists of 3 shifts of 51 firefighters, who work 48-hour rotations and report to the Assistant Chief. Each shift consists of a Shift Commander, 3 Captains, 3 Driver Engineers and 10 Firefighter/paramedics. They man two engines, a quint-aerial/ladder truck and two ALS ambulances, which are always available for emergencies. Engines respond to all first aid calls to enhance available manpower and treatment

The function of the Hurst Fire Department involves more than just responding to and extinguishing fire. Some of their daily activities include:

  • Fire Hazard Inspections 
  • Medical Response 
  • Fire Safety Education 
  • Training 
  • Smoke Detector Inspections
  • High Angle Rescue 
  • Hazardous Material Response
  • Swift Water Rescue
  • Bomb/Arson Response
  • Trench Rescue
